The [Uncertain] Four Seasons

For the last few months I have had the pleasure of working with Tim Devine and Gerard Mason of AKQA , the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and The Sydney Festival to put together The [Uncertain] Four Seasons! This collaboration takes Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and places it under the lens of climate science data to produce a new work for string orchestra. The [Uncertain] Four Seasons premieres on 12 January 2021 in Sydney but can be live streamed at 8:30PM tomorrow night here.

Covid Response Project

I’m feeling chuffed! I have just submitted an application for $1000 from the Myer Foundation to put together a small Cover Response project!

The goal is to write 10 short lullabies for piano over 8 weeks and then pay the AMAZING Stefan Cassomenos to record them, along with 5 others that appeared on Moonah and Whirlpool and release an album and downloadable song book. The miraculous Myles Mumford is going to record the album so I know it’ll sound just beautiful.

This project is about helping artists that I admire get through the pandemic and I’m so proud to be able to share it with you.

Here’s a little taste of what’s to come!

Moonah and Whirlpool release.

New Album Today - Cassandra

I am very pleased to announce that Cassandra is now available for listening on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Tidal, Soundcloud or your favourite streaming service!

Performed by the sublime Monica Curro and Stefan Cassomenos, Cassandra confronts the great social issue of our time, climate change. Using the ancient story of Cassandra as metaphor, and inspired by Brian Walters’ poem Cassandra, the work warns of the terrible price of ignoring climate scientists. Apollo fell in love with Cassandra, giving her the gift of prophecy. When she refused his advances he inflicted on her a curse that no one would believe her prophecies. Cassandra predicted the fall of Troy and was ignored. Will we suffer the same fate as the Trojans?

CD Release - Moonah and Whirlpool and Five Lullabies

I am very please to announce the release of my new CD, Moonah and Whirlpool and Five Lullabies, available on CD from the online store, Spotify, Google Play, Tidal and other streaming services.

Moonah and Whirlpool Front Cover

In June 2016 I produced a concert at the Scots Church in Melbourne to premiere my piano concerto Mountain Ash The first work in the program was Moonah and Whirlpool, a tone poem for orchestra based on the poem Argonauta nodosa by Brian Walters. Argonauta nodosa was recently published in Brian’s new collection of poems Angels, like laundry.

My CD release in March 2019 pairs the recording of that beautiful performance with Five Lullabies, performed by Nicholas Buc. Five Lullabies is a suite of 5 short piano works celebrating new life and the triumph of a dear friend over enormous odds.
